Pakistan A Growing Concern For US

Pakistan A Growing Concern For US

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/21/washington/21policy.html?_r=1&hp

The Obama administration is continuing, if not expanding, the Bush administration’s dealings with Pakistan. Over the past week, the drones and missiles attacked alleged training camps of Baitullah Mehsud.

The attacks are a sign of growing concern that the expanding reach of militants in the country is a great threat to the world.

Already, the Swat Valley and large areas of the country are under the control of different militant factions, with the law of ‘Democratic’ Pakistan being officially replaced by the Shariat (Islamic) law. The groups have ‘won’ the people’s support through brute terrorism. The recent killing of a journalist covering happenings in the region proves that the militants are going all out to have their way.

Admittedly, the operations being carried out by the CIA might need to be covert, it’s time a stepped attack finished the matter of terrorism once and for all. The US has always stood for Democracy and human rights, and has also considerable power to pressurize Pakistan into taking action. Obama’s step to grant result-oriented financial support is a step in the right direction.

http://www.fastcashadvanceloans.org

Government Has High Hopes From Banks

http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/banking/2009-02-05-banks-credit-economic-recovery_N.htm

History is going to be made! The Fed is on its way to mount the largest bank rescue till date. The government has high hopes that if it clears troubled assets and gets the credit flowing once more, by setting up an ‘aggregator bank’ our economy will move back on track.

The situation is indeed grim. The banks that were considered ‘too big to collapse’ have already declared bankruptcy. Samuel Hayes, a professor of finance at Harvard Business School says that "Banks provide the grease which lubricates the wheels of commerce; without that, the economy is frozen."

But, whether their new approach to tackle the situation will work or not, remains to be seen. Let’s just hope, that the government knows what they are doing!
